The premise of Keera is a story where humans land on an alien planet from the alien’s perspective. It is a science fiction and slice of life story. The protagonist and point of view character is assigned to study the humans and figure out why they came to Keera. In the process, the point of view character has to decide what to share with the people of Keera about humanity, and what things about humanity should stay hidden in the past.
One reason I am making this story is that I am tired of seeing sci-fi media with lots guns and gore. There are plenty of sci-fi action-adventure stories; it is a nice change of pace to slow down and enjoy the scenery. Keera is made with that in mind. A major inspiration for my plot is the short TV show “Pokémon Concierge”. I loved the laid back, minor plot stakes of each mini-episode. Another inspiration of mine is “Gravity Falls”. What I am taking from that show is the existence of a central mystery underlying the individual plots of each episode.
This is a long-term passion project of mine; I have been working on it since I was in high school. There have been a lot of changes to this story over the years: multiple cut characters, changes in the characters I did keep, and I didn’t even decide on a protagonist and point of view character until recently.
This blog will start with me defining some terms you will need to know before I get into the characters native to Keera. Then, I will describe the characters and go a little bit into their backstories and motivations. After that, I will go more into the world around them. Given my interest in linguistics, I will also intersperse posts about the constructed languages I made for the world of Keera. There will be progress updates on the comic I am housing the story of Keera in throughout this blog as well.
I will try to maintain a bi-weekly posting schedule, so stay tuned for more worldbuilding.
