The Basergo are the goat people of Keera. They are one of the two native sapient species on Keera. They are based on Bagot goats, a real-life goat breed from England. Let’s start with some physical characteristics. Like Bagot goats, the Basergo have black fur on their top halves and white fur on the bottom halves of their bodies. They also have relatively straight horns which curve backwards and inwards slightly. Unlike their real-life inspiration, the Basergo are bipedal, with hand-paws on their front limbs and hooves as feet. They also have yellow irises with no white visible. While most Basergo are an even split of black and white fur, some have white patches of fur on their faces or chest. More rarely, they can have black patches on their upper legs. The most important Basergo characters I have created so far are an even split. That’s mostly because it makes them easier to draw for the comic. They are taller than most humans, standing at an average height of 7 feet, or 214 centimeters, tall. This is also a lot taller than the other sentient species on Keera.

Height Chart

The Basergo live longer than humans on average, with their life expectancy being around 200 years. However, years on Keera are shorter on than on Earth. The Basergo consider adulthood to start at 35, though they still develop a bit more physically and mentally for a while after that, just like humans. They usually stop developing around 50. The main character of the story is 42, or the developmental equivalent of a human in their mid-20s.
Compared to humanity, the Basergo are very peaceful. They of course can have conflicts between each other and with the Orokuhchee. However, those conflicts rarely escalate to the severity level that humans would consider wars. That is not to say there have never been wars; it is rare on Keera, but not unheard of. In the Keera comic, the humans happen to land near the border of two countries. One is led by a Basergo queen, and the other by a Orokuhchee king. The Basergo ruler, Queen Ali, hates her job, but is still popular because of her effective policies and care for her subjects’ well-being. Here’s some art of Queen Ali I made a while back:

There are other countries on Keera led by other rulers. However, I have not built them out as clearly yet. I will get to them when I talk about the countries they rule over. In my next post, I will talk about the other sentient species on Keera, the Orokuhchee.
